Registration for the Student Leadership Weekend has now closed.
The Student Leadership Weekend 2019 will be held at King’s College, The British School of Madrid, from 15-17 November 2019. The Student Leadership Weekend provides leadership training and development for senior pupils in Years 11-13 in COBIS Schools.
Through interactive activities with trainers, guest speakers and student facilitators, participants are presented with opportunities to develop self-awareness, interpersonal skills and life competencies, whilst networking with students from other international British schools.
This year’s programme will be designed around plenary sessions and workshops covering:
- Teamwork, team building and team leadership
- Presentation and public speaking skills
- Creative problem solving
- Collaboration and sharing best practice in student leadership
- Promoting student wellbeing
The programme is both challenging and highly interactive and will provide student leaders with an opportunity to develop their facilitation skills, through leading sessions and feedback activities. Students will be encouraged to bring and share their leadership ideas, showcasing initiatives already put in place within their schools, and providing an opportunity for others to take back ideas for implementation within their own student leadership environments.
In addition to training sessions and workshops, the students will also take part in a fun cultural excursion to central Madrid (including a meal in a typical Spanish restaurant) on the Saturday, along with leisure activities on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.
The programme will start on Friday afternoon (c.3pm) and finish with lunch on Sunday.
This event fee is €430 per student. This includes all conference/course fees, accommodation, meals, airport/station transfers and entrance fees.
Accommodation is included in the delegate fee (Friday and Saturday nights only). All participants will stay in single-sex, twin rooms in the 4* Hotel Exe Tres Cantos 4*, Madrid.
Airport transfers (from Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas Airport) are included in the delegate fee. Where possible, delegates are requested to aim to arrive on Friday 15 November 10am and 2pm. This will allow the host school to set up a shuttle service.
Participants will be supervised by colleagues from King’s College. It is expected that most participants will attend the conference without a teacher. If teachers/chaperones are accompanying pupils, there will be a separate charge for attendance at any elements of the event. Any accompanying adults will need to arrange their own accommodation. Please note that there is no formal opportunity for teachers to take part in this student event.

Payment and cancellation
Invoices for delegate fees will be issued by COBIS. To cancel a booking, please notify COBIS as soon as possible by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note, no refunds will be offered after Friday 11 October 2019.
As with all COBIS events, your school should not make any travel plans or bookings until your place at the Student Leadership Weekend is confirmed. COBIS and the Host School reserve the right to cancel this event if insufficient bookings are received, or if travel to the host country becomes inadvisable.Travel arrangements and associated costs are the responsibility of the school and its insurers. In the event of withdrawal, cancellation or change, COBIS will bear no liability.
Schools must take out the appropriate insurance policies in order to attend the Student Leadership Weekend. The policy should include travel, medical and cancellation insurance as well as anything else as required by your school or region.
