Unfortunately, due to the continued spread of the Coronavirus and concerns about international travel, COBIS and the International British School of Bucharest have taken the difficult decision to postpone the COBIS U16 Debate Competition. We regret that this event will not take place in March 2020 in Bucharest as planned. We appreciate that this will be a disappointment for many of the students and teachers who have been preparing for this event, but the welfare of the students and our wider school communities is of the utmost importance. We are hopeful that we will be able to identify a new date for this event in the following academic year, and will be in touch with all registered schools with more details in due course.
We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause your school, but hope that you will appreciate that this decision has been made in order to safeguard the wellbeing of our school communities.
COBIS would like to take this opportunity to express thanks to all of the schools and teachers that have been preparing students for this event, and also to the International British School of Bucharest who have done a tremendous job preparing for the COBIS U16 Debate Competition. We are looking forward to a successful event in 2021.
We are excited to bring our Member Schools the first COBIS U16 Debate Competition in March 2020, for students in Years 7-10. This competition is in addition to the COBIS Student World Debate Competition for students in Years 11-13.
Registration for the COBIS U16 Debate Competition has now closed.
The COBIS U16 Debate Competition brings young COBIS student debaters together for an exciting three day event. The programme includes two days of debate competitions, a cultural excursion around Bucharest, plus plenty of opportunities for COBIS student networking.
The COBIS U16 Debate Competition 2020 aims to give students a great first experience of international debating. Students will compete both in their school team and in mixed debate teams, giving them the opportunity to work alongside and get to know fellow COBIS students from around the world.
For the School Team Debates, overall team points gained are added to the school team tally. For the Mixed Team Debates, individual debater points gained are added to each debater's school team tally.
