The 2018 COBIS Senior School Music Festival, held at King's College, The British School of Madrid, showcased an impressive array of musical talent from students attending schools in Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Russia, Romania and Czech Republic.
Over three action-packed days, Senior School students participated in a range of different vocal and instrumental categories both as individuals and as ensembles. The Festival culminated in a performance of a new song specially composed for the event. The "Anthem for COBIS" competition was won by talented songwriter Alys Sheahan of The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) who conducted the COBIS orchestra through her creation, to the delight of teachers, parents and family in attendance.
Participating students also got the chance to forge new friendships with other students in British international schools and a trip to the Parque Warner Theme Park in Madrid was well-enjoyed by all. The overall winners, the school who achieved the most success throughout all categories, was announced as the hosts, King's College, The British School of Madrid (Soto de Viñuelas). The winning students were presented with The Jeremy Hibbins Memorial Cup by Jamie Ralph of COBIS at the Closing Ceremony. The cup was kindly donated by the family of Jeremy Hibbins, an inspirational music teacher and founder of The British School of Ljubljana who tragically passed away in 2013.
The full results of the 2018 COBIS Senior School Music Festival are below. Our thanks go to Mr Mark Blake, Head of Music at King's College Madrid, who led on the organisation of the event and the students, teachers, staff, parents, families, cooks, waiters, cleaners and bus drivers who all contributed to making the Festival an enormous success.
