Virtual Debate Competition

Together with Debate Mate, we invited students in Years 11-13 to take part in our Virtual Debate Competition.

The Virtual Debate Competition took place from 6-8 December 2024.  It was open to all COBIS schools, including Applicant schools. This competition was recommended for students in years 11-13, aged 16+.

Over three days, students had the opportunity to showcase their debating skills and compete against their international peers through live debates on Zoom. Students received high quality and extensive feedback from expert judges after each debate, allowing them to develop their skills. 

Congratulations to The British School Caracas for winning this year's Virtual Debate Competition!

 

 

Over the course of the competition, the following motions were debated:

  • Debate 1 (Prepared): This house prefers a world where all individuals have access to their own life statistics
  • Debate 2 (Unseen): This House believes that technology is making us less human.
  • Debate 3 (Prepared): This House would implement carbon credits for individuals.
  • Debate 4 (Unseen): This House regrets the rise of the gig economy.
  • Quarter-Finals (Prepared): This House supports affirmative action in education and employment.
  • Semi-Finals (Unseen): This House supports the use of military intervention to protect human rights.
  • Plate / Grand Final (Unseen): This House prefers an altruistic career over earning to give.
