Understanding and Supporting Learners with Attachment Needs

Attachment theory is based on the pattern of relationships between infants and primary carers. There is now a greater understanding of the influence of these very early relationships on later development. Evidence has emerged which links attachment style directly to expectations and responses in school and it can be a useful lens through which to view pupils’ behavioural difficulties.

In this webinar, we consider what attachment is and explore what different attachment styles can mean for teachers, TAs, LSAs, SENCOs and anyone in a pastoral role within a school, as well as pupils themselves.

You will come away with practical strategies for supporting learners with a range of attachment needs, in order to improve social and emotional regulation, ability to focus during lessons and both peer-to-peer and teacher-pupil relationships.
