Maths in Early Years

This webinar explores the importance of teaching maths through play in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). While maths may seem rule-bound and play freeform, both involve exploring new ideas and discovering interesting insights. The session delves into hands-on play techniques that help young children engage longer and gain a deeper understanding of maths concepts, transforming abstract ideas into tangible experiences.

Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the significance of early mathematical education in brain development and future academic success.
• Learn effective strategies to teach maths through play, making abstract concepts tangible for young learners.
• Discover methods to incorporate maths in everyday play scenarios, such as measuring tree heights, identifying shapes in objects, and counting insects in a garden.
• Gain insights into making learning enjoyable and memorable, thereby aiding comprehension and retention of mathematical concepts.

The session is led by Melody Yuan, Y1 Class teacher and Mathematics Curriculum Lead at Wellington College Bilingual Nursery Tianjin.
