Embracing Blended Learning Experiences to Expand Global Mindedness in Secondary Schools

Last summer, 68 student teachers in the International Teacher Education of Secondary Schools (ITESS) diploma program in the Netherlands collaborated virtually with 19 teachers in the Janesville School District and Pius XI High School in Wisconsin. At the end of the 2-week virtual internship, mentor teachers, students, and ITESS faculty expressed appreciation for the relationships that were built, the knowledge that was shared and agreed that it was a worthwhile cultural experience.

In this session, Shannon Bruce Ramaka, Ed.D., Head of the International Teacher Education of Secondary Schools (ITESS) at NHL Stenden University, shares data collected from the experience and afterwards ITESS student teachers discuss ideas for future application. NHL Stenden University is one of COBIS' ITT partners.

In this webinar, participants can:

- Learn about a virtual blended/hybrid learning project that they may be able to implement in their own school or setting.

- Consider how virtual blended/hybrid learning experiences with student teachers joining in with Secondary School students may enhance cultural intelligence and global mindedness.

- Grow professionally as they hear how other professionals have grappled with similar challenges in the blended/hybrid learning environment and now can offer some “hot tips” to others.
