Determining whether modular or linear assessment is best for your students

Government education departments have often sparked the “What is the best assessment model?” debate as they’ve evolved national curriculums and programmes of study. Part of this debate is whether linear assessment (doing all the assessment at the end of a programme of study) or modular assessment (doing assessment at the end of each unit or module) is the best for high stakes exams such as GCSE/International GCSE or A Level/International AS/A level.

In this session, Henna Nathwani, Head of International Qualifications at Pearson School Qualifications, takes a look at the history of modular and linear assessment, the virtues of each approach, and how we determine what is best for our students to ensure everyone has the best chance of success.
