Backward Design: Putting Understanding at the Heart of Learning and Creativity in School Curriculum Design
The webinar highlights the principles of backward design and shows how these could help deepen students’ understanding, enrich learning experience and apply concepts to real-life contexts.
The backward design framework, also known as Understanding by Design, was put forward by Jay Mctighe and Grant Wiggins. It offers a pathway to a creative and innovative curriculum planning. Its two key ideas are contained in focusing on teaching and assessment for understanding and learning transfer - and in designing curriculum ‘backward’ from those ends.
This session is led by Akin Alufa, Senior Teacher Academics at The Regent Primary School, Abuja, Nigeria.
