COBIS Programme for Early Career Teachers (CPECT)

The COBIS programme is created using nine key components which fit together to provide a comprehensive introduction to the core body of knowledge, skills and behaviours that define excellent teaching for early career teachers in an international setting. This will be facilitated via the following:

• Podcasts produced by a wide range of dedicated international professionals currently working in the international sector, sharing their expertise and bringing the UK Teachers’ Standards to life in context. 

• Expanding competencies in line with the UK Teachers’ Standards through the application of theory to practice in real life situations in your school context 

• Termly interactive online sessions to increase knowledge of the standards and support the development of both teaching skills and research skills.  

• A programme that covers all UK Teachers’ Standards but is also flexible to tailor for the strengths and areas to be developed by teachers on their own international contexts. 

Teachers that successfully complete the two-year programme will receive a COBIS certificate stating that participants have completed the COBIS Programme for Early Careers Teachers.

CPECT participants will also receive Early Career Teacher membership of the Chartered College of Teaching, with access to a range of additional resources to support their development.

• Participants develop their professional network with other COBIS colleagues

Online sessions will be repeated twice on each day to fit in with different time zones.

Year 1

• Term 1: 

Unit 1: High expectations (Standard 1 – Set high expectations)

Unit 2: Managing Behaviour (Standard 7 – Manage behaviour effectively)

• Term 2: 

Unit 3: How Pupils Learn (Standard 2 – Promote good progress)
Unit 4: Subject and curriculum (Standard 3 – Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge)

• Term 3:   

Unit 5: Developing Quality Pedagogy (Standard 4 – Plan and teach well-structured lessons)
Unit 6: Adaptive teaching (Standard 5 – Adapt to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils teaching)
Unit 7: (Standard 6 – Making accurate and productive use of Assessment)
Unit 8: Fulfilling professional responsibilities (Standard 8 – Professional behaviours). This is addressed each term.

• Fees are for the two-year programme
• If you are based in the UK, the delegate fee will be liable for VAT
• If you are based outside the UK, but you are booking and paying for your place as an individual (rather than having the booking paid for by the school), you may also be liable for VAT

• ​​​​​​Early Career Teachers

• Local and International teachers who wish to further develop their skills

CPECT can be completed alongside formal ECT induction (for those in an eligible school), but is also suitable for teachers who are not undergoing formal induction but wish to develop their practice. 

Teachers with Qualified Teacher Status(QTS) in accredited British Schools Overseas (BSO) can register for Early Career Teacher induction with a Department for Education(DFE) approved Appropriate Body should they wish to have their induction overseas certified by the DfE. For more information about ECT induction, click here. 

The programme can be used to support those in non-BSO schools to build portfolios of evidence to support future applications for a potential reduced-length ECT induction should they move to a BSO school or an eligible school in England in the future, however, it should be noted that a reduction is not guaranteed. Evidence would be reviewed by the Appropriate Body once they are employed in an eligible school home or abroad to complete their ECT.

Having worked closely with early career teachers for many years, I understand the importance of high-quality support in the early stages of your teaching career. This course aims to bridge theory and practice by exploring key elements of effective teaching and translating them into practical strategies that can be confidently applied in your classroom. Our focus is on supporting you to build confidence, develop your professional identity, and make a positive impact on pupils’ learning in your ECT years and beyond.

My education philosophy, underpinning all aspects of CPECT, is that all children deserve excellent teachers. The quality of the programme ECTs receive is fundamentally important to ensure ECTs can make rapid progress, develop teacher self-efficacy, and quickly become effective teachers of their subject or phase. ECTs will purposefully and systematically revisit the elements of teaching introduced in their ITT programmes to deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding.
