Governors

COBIS School Membership provides Governing bodies with access to quality training and support.

COBIS offers governance training and support to member schools and individuals through the COBIS Consultancy Service. Training is delivered by approved COBIS Consultants who are all quality assured.

In addition, COBIS School Governors and Governors from non-member schools are welcome to attend the COBIS Annual Conference and other COBIS training opportunities.

COBIS Governors - Are you looking for a quality training provider?

COBIS can also offer governance training to whole school Boards and individuals through the COBIS Consultancy Service.

Training areas include:

  • School management structures and processes
  • Parent and community relations
  • Preparation for inspection
  • School development planning
  • Safeguarding children/adults and child protection
  • Safer recruitment
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Curriculum models

While the Headteacher or Principal leads and manages the school from day to day, a properly constituted Board of Governance is an essential part of each COBIS member school. Schools show a healthy diversity of types of governing board - in size, constituency and organisation. There is no perfect solution: each must serve the needs of its school. In all cases, however, there must be good governance - for which COBIS sets out this advice and these expectations for its members and candidate member schools.
