I've Started!
Well after a whirlwind PGCE year (or closer to 15 months actually), I have finally qualified and am in my first teaching job! I have a wonderful year 3 class, and although there are only fourteen children, it is a true United Nations with every child coming from a different part of the world. It's a fabulous, friendly school, and I have a lot of support from all members of staff.
Over the last three weeks I have been trying to find my feet, and wondering why I am constantly running around whereas the other teachers seem to be a lot more relaxed than me…apparently it is something to do with having many years' experience. In addition, this last week I suffered my first and hopefully last cold this year. This term's topic is The Egyptians and the children are having great fun finding out about mummies, pyramids and so on. Maths is proving challenging working under the new curriculum, but we WILL get there! I've made the usual NQT mistakes, including writing on my whiteboard with a permanent marker – acetone is a very handy item to keep in your desk drawer! As a class we have taken on the responsibility of looking after the class rabbit, and the children are having great fun learning how to do this and care for animals in general. There is always so much to get ready, and thinking about this is slightly daunting, however I am aiming to improve my organisation!
