A teaching recruitment business in Cardiff has expanded by opening an office in New Zealand.

Teachers International Consultancy (TIC), which is run from headquarters in Penarth, has decided to develop a presence in the southern hemisphere in a region which the firm says offers potential for finding teachers who are highly valued by the international schools.

A spokeswoman for TIC said: “Teachers from both Australia and New Zealand are well trained, fit in well within an international school environment, have great attitudes to work and to the multicultural learning environment, are often eager to travel, and are native English speakers.

“Also, a large percentage of TIC’s teacher placements are in international schools in South East Asia so an office in New Zealand will help to enhance our means of reaching good quality teachers willing to work in that region.”

Since TIC was incorporated, the international schools market has grown dramatically and continues to do so.

In 2000 there were just 2,584 international schools teaching 0.97 million students.

Today there are more than 7,300 international schools located in most countries around the world teaching over 3.7 million students (K-12, both expatriate and local children) and employing 348,000 teachers (data supplied by the International School Consultancy Group).

TIC opened an office in Doha in 2012.

The firm’s spokeswoman said: “This region is a huge market for international schools.

“There are 128 international schools in Doha alone, and over 1,200 international schools in the Middle East.

“The purpose of TIC’s Doha office is to support the teachers who we are placing in the schools there, and to develop stronger relationships with the leading international schools in the region in a bid to develop our growth prospects there.

“We have seen excellent success as a result of having a presence on the ground in Doha; both in terms of supporting teachers and working with the schools.”

TIC was established by former teacher Andrew Wigford in 2006.
