Welcome from Colin Bell, COBIS CEO

Dear Colleague,

This month COBIS celebrates the launch of the first professional development conference for Early Years colleagues - the COBIS EYFS Conference. We are enormously grateful to the team at British Embassy School Ankara for all their work planning and hosting this inaugural event.

COBIS would also like to offer sincere thanks to colleagues from the King’s Group as they host and deliver the COBIS/King’s Group Student Leadership Weekend in Madrid. As a student centred organisation COBIS is delighted to be developing such activities - watch this space! - for students and this event will be the platform to celebrate the publication and distribution of the 3rd edition of the popular World Student Magazine.

This week saw the launch of the 2015 COBIS Annual Research Survey. As you'll appreciate the more schools which participate, the greater the quality of the data which COBIS can produce. A full report will be available to all participating schools, plus data will be used to inform the strategic direction of COBIS and the association’s dynamic Development Plan.

Being a consultative association, COBIS is always looking at ways to develop the COBIS Professional Development offering to make sure that we are providing member schools with relevant, high-quality and cost-effective CPD opportunities. All schools will receive an email this month inviting them to complete the CPD Needs Analysis Questionnaire and we would be grateful if you could share your feedback to help us develop the COBIS Professional Development calendar for 2016/17 and beyond.

Kind regards,

Colin Bell
CEO

Additionally to the Welcome List sent out in the September Connect, COBIS is pleased to also welcome the following Principals and Headteachers to COBIS schools. We look forward to working with you:

COBIS reminds all member schools to notify us of changes to their administrative and senior leadership staff. COBIS Annual Research Survey 2015 - Share Your School's Story...

The COBIS Annual Research Survey, delivered in partnership with GL Education, launches on 5 October 2015. All COBIS School heads should look out for an email from GL Education in conjunction with this launch. This email includes unique login details to access the COBIS Annual Research Survey.

This is an exciting project which will help COBIS to develop a better understanding of the growing global COBIS family of schools, as well as the British international school sector as a whole. The results will support lobbying activities, inform planning for future CPD events, and help facilitate increased school-to-school networking, communication and support. Participating schools will have the opportunity to access benchmarking data as well as tailored reports for Senior Management Teams and Governors.

Last year, 47% of schools responded to the survey. This year we would like schools to help us reach a target of at least 65% participation. For more information, please click here.

Staff at Teachers International Consultancy Cycle for Nepal

The staff of Supporting Member Teachers International Consultancy (TIC) joined together recently for a charity bike ride to raise money for The British School of Kathmandu Nepal Earthquake Appeal. TIC is one of the world’s leading companies for international school teacher recruitment and works directly with many British schools overseas including The British School of Kathmandu. When the school in Nepal announced an appeal to support local schools and communities devastated by the earthquake, TIC and its employees jumped in to help. The sponsored cycle ride was just one of the activities the team has undertaken to raise funds.

TIC’s Managing Director Andrew Wigford, an ex-international school Headteacher said, “For some of the TIC team it was their first time on a bike in many years. Everyone managed to complete the 13.5km course – although it was the furthest many had ever ridden!”
TIC’s cycle challenge raised £971 towards the appeal which is helping local communities and schools affected by the earthquake that occurred in April which killed over 6,000 people, injured 14,000 and affected 8 million. Over 1.7 million children were in the worst hit areas. TIC has been supporting the British School of Kathmandu Nepal Earthquake Appeal since it was established at the time of the disaster, raising almost £4,000 towards the cause.
