COBIS Student Poetry Competition 2015

"Journeys"

COBIS students from around the globe picked up their pens and took on the challenge of writing, in 40 lines or less, a poem on "Journeys."

We had an overwhelming response this year, with 685 students, from 54 schools, taking part. Well done to all who entered, the judges had a fantastic time reading all your poems and thank you for your patience while we marked them. The winners are listed below; click on the name of the student to read their poem

Category A: 10 years and under

Winner: Felix Gatty Saunt - The British School in The Netherlands, The Netherlands

Runner Up: Vlad Oancea – Campion Junior School, Greece

Category B: 11 - 14 years

Winner: Emmanuella Chukwu - Atlantic Hall, Nigeria

Runner Up: Mathula Muhundan - Doha College, Qatar

Category C: 15 - 19 years 

Winner: Chloe Elliot – Dubai College, United Arab Emirates

Runner Up: Rai Saad Ullah Khan – The British School of Bahrain, Kingdom of Bahrain

Prizes:

The winning entries will be published in the next edition of World Student magazine. World Student is a print and digital magazine aimed at students in international schools around the world – and predominantly those studying in COBIS and other British international schools. Published by John Catt Educational, with the support of COBIS, the magazine features a mixture of news and information from COBIS; articles written by students themselves; international school graduates and alumni; teachers and educators. If you have a student who would be interested in contributing to the magazine, please let us know. 

Judges:

COBIS would like to thank all who helped judge the poetry competition this year, including teachers at Dubai College and Prague British School – your help is invaluable and we truly appreciate the time and effort you put into marking the poems.

We would also like to thank the team at John Cat Educational and Ian Bland from Poetry for Primary School Children. Once again, the success of the COBIS Poetry Competition is dependent upon the help of external judges so we are very grateful to all involved.

"The Funny Side of Life"

COBIS students from around the globe picked up their pens and took on the challenge of writing, in 40 lines or less, a poem on "The Funny Side of Life."

Well done to the 171 students, from 43 schools, who took part. The winners are listed below.

Category A: 10 years and under

Winner: Erin Dutton - The British School in The Netherlands 

Runner Up: Nina Stone - Geneva English School 

Category B: 11 - 14 years

Winner: Ellie Yeoman - Doha College

Runner Up: Zaina Shouman - Sherborne Qatar

Category C: 15 - 19 years 

Joint Winners: Ría Priyani Manghani - British School of Gran Canaria and Fernanda Olivares Muñoz - The Edron Academy

Runner Up: Ben Haertel - Riverside School Prague

Prizes:

Published by John Catt Educational, with the support of COBIS, the magazine features a mixture of news and information from COBIS; articles written by students themselves; international school graduates and alumni; teachers and educators; and articles contributed by other organisations that serve the sector. 

Ian Bland of Poetry for Primary School Children has also provided signed books for the Key Stage 2 winner.
