Calling All COBIS Schools – A chance to showcase your school and your students in a new COBIS Film!

COBIS is pleased to be working with Eye for Business to prepare two exciting new films that will be showcased at the COBIS Annual Conference in London in May. We are inviting all COBIS Schools to contribute to these films by providing footage and images. We will also be looking for a select group of senior students to join us at the Annual Conference to work with Eye For Business to produce a film including coverage from the conference itself.

The films will showcase the range and diversity of COBIS Schools. We particularly want to hear from your students about what they think makes their school special. Schools are invited to submit short clips which might involve students completing the following statements:

• My school is great/special because…
• I like [School X] because…
• My favourite thing about [School X] is…
• The most challenging thing about my school is...

Other possible contributions could include:

• A group of students at a key location in the school saying ‘Hello from School X’
• A montage of images showing the best parts of school life
• An interview with a number of students saying what they like best about the school, what their biggest challenges are, etc.
• A short animation
• Sporting shots, musical performances, etc.

Please feel free to be as creative as you would like with your submissions. We are leaving it to the schools’ and students’ imaginations to decide what should be submitted.

• Be sure to include the name and location of the school so that this is clear in the final edited film
• Include visuals to support your statements (e.g. if your students say their favourite thing about the school is the boarding, then make sure we can see their accommodation, etc.)

Technical information:

• Schools can submit raw footage without editing, background music, etc. – Eye for Business will do the final editing
• Clips should be no longer than 1 minute
• Schools should submit a maximum of 5 clips
• Please send video footage in as high quality as possible, at least HD 720, or as HD 1080.  Preferred video formats are mpeg4 or .mov files, not .wmv or .flv. If you have any questions or difficulties please email charlie@eyeforbusiness.co.uk 
• Still images can also be submitted; please submit high resolution JPEG images or raw files if you have them

How to submit your clips:

• Schools should upload their video clips using WeTransfer and then send the link to hayley@eyeforbusiness.co.uk stating in the Message “Video for COBIS” and the name of the School. WeTransfer is explained here: https://www.wetransfer.com/howitworks. Up to 2GB can be sent this way. If you have any difficulties using WeTransfer, or if you would like to use other file transfer services please email charlie@eyeforbusiness.co.uk
• Photos that are less than 4MB can be emailed directly to hayley@eyeforbusiness.co.uk
• The deadline for submitting clips is Tuesday 28 April 2015

Please note, in addition to screening the final films at the Annual Conference, footage will also be edited for the COBIS website. By submitting clips, schools agree to the use of the clips in the final film and in a film for the COBIS website. Please ensure that you have the necessary permissions from students and their families. 

Opportunity for senior students to join us as filmmakers at the COBIS Annual Conference

Calling students with an interest in filmmaking, journalism, or media.

COBIS is pleased to offer six senior students from COBIS Schools the opportunity to attend the COBIS Annual Conference as filmmakers and/or presenters, working with Eye for Business to film, edit and produce a short film which will be screened ahead of the Annual Dinner at the end of the conference. The film will show the conference from behind the scenes, and from the perspective of the students.

A maximum of six students will be trained by Eye for Business on filming, interviewing and presenting techniques. The students will then work with Eye for Business staff to create the final film over the course of the conference. This is a fantastic opportunity for senior students with an interest in journalism, filmmaking, or media to gain valuable, practical experience.

Details:

• The training and filming will take place at the Park Plaza Hotel, Victoria, London from Saturday 9 May to Monday 11 May 2015
• All equipment will be provided by Eye for Business
• Participating students should be at least 15 years old at the time of the conference
• COBIS will provide accommodation (if required) in same-sex, twin rooms at the conference hotel as well as meals during the conference
• Schools will be required to cover transportation costs, visa costs (if applicable), etc. and retain responsibility for chaperoning students
• The number of places will be limited to a maximum of three students from any one school
• To express an initial interest in participating, please email Fiona Rogers on cpd@cobis.org.uk
• All interested schools will be asked to submit a short profile (max 300 words) about the students who would like to participate (interests, experience with media/journalism, etc.)
• Eye for Business are interested in one or two of the students presenting the film. Anyone with presenting experience should make sure this in highlighted in their student profile
• All expressions of interest must be received by Friday 27 March. COBIS will confirm participants in the following week
