Profile

In 2002 former HMCI Sir Chris Woodhead and Professor Anthony O’Hear, who co-wrote the current Teachers’ Standards, led the first PGCE course at the University of Buckingham. There were just 12 teachers on the course. This year, with over 1000 teachers studying with us, we are the largest provider of in-school teacher training in the UK.
We also run the country’s most popular Master’s Degrees in school leadership with some 200 Headteachers, Deputies and Middle leaders studying with us each year.
All of our courses, from the PGCE to the Certificate in Middle Leadership and the MEd in Educational Leadership, focus on the practical application of educational theory. Our aim is to improve the craft of teaching and leading in schools, and our courses provide frameworks for studying ‘on-the-job’. Blending distance learning with face-to-face sessions, we have designed our courses to balance the demands of school life alongside professional.
