COBIS Teaching Assistants - NEW Professional Development & Published Research

Teaching Assistants make a hugely significant contribution to successful academic and pastoral development of pupils across the COBIS network.
With this in mind COBIS is delighted to announce details of the first COBIS professional development programme designed specifically for COBIS Teaching Assistants.
The programme reflects the COBIS commitment to support and deliver quality professional development across the whole school workforce.
The course will be delivered from 18-19 February 2012 at St George’s British International School in Rome and accredited in partnership with the University of Northampton.
The programme content reflects conclusions from the COBIS commissioned research undertaken by Dr Estelle Tarry from the University of Northampton last year.

COBIS UPDATE – Following the NQT Statutory Induction DfE Consultation

COBIS is pleased to share the news that The Independent Schools Induction Panel (IStip) have received a designation letter from Nick Gibb MP, Schools Minister, providing the required determination for IStip to deliver NQT statutory induction in qualifying COBIS schools. Qualifying COBIS schools are those in which a fully accredited British schools overseas (BSO) inspection has been carried out.
The DfE NQT induction consultation closed on 1 December. Assuming the changes are made at regulation level through due Parliamentary process, COBIS has every reason to believe that in partnership with IStip, qualifying COBIS schools will be able to access, support and deliver NQT induction from 1 September 2012.
COBIS has led lobbying through the House of Lords and various other channels, Colin Bell, COBIS Executive Director said ‘particular thanks are extended to COBIS Join COBIS (application-procedure/application-procedure.html)

The NQT DfE Consultation Has Now Closed - Proposed changes to the newly qualified teacher ...

Thank you to all colleagues who have submitted a response. Your support is valued and most welcomed. As you will be aware, thanks to COBIS lobbying and the intervention of Lord Lexden, COBIS Vice-President in the House of Lords there is a strong possibility that COBIS schools inspected by DfE approved Inspectorates will be able to support the delivery of NQT induction from September 2012.
This would be an excellent opportunity for qualifying COBIS member schools in terms of recruitment, retention and professional development for school based induction tutors and NQTs. Also, another platform to highlight and recognise the high quality of COBIS member schools and their ability to effectively support UK based initial teacher training and lead quality assurance in this field.
The DfE consultation documents provides details of the proposed changes to the NQT induction regulations for teachers in England. The current system for NQT induction is set out in The Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 2008.
Please note:
Colleagues inside and outside of the global COBIS network were encouraged to submit responses. School leaders, teachers, support staff, parents and governors across British International school networks and associations were invited to respond. In addition UK based initial teacher training Colleges/Universities, providers of induction...
