Description
The New School was founded in 1972 to provide a stimulating educational environment emphasising academic excellence, creativity and social responsibility. The school continues to place the child first and its policy of small class groups allows for the maximum level of interaction between class and teacher. Shared responsibility has always been a vital part of the structure of the school and children from an early age are encouraged to play an active role in the school community. The New School is an international school for pupils from Nursery to University entrance level. The English National Curriculum, followed throughout, is modified to meet the needs of the international child. When required, pupils can be prepared for the Italian 3a Media exam for an extra fee. All teachers hold university degrees and teaching certificates and have, on average, eight years' teaching experience.
The school is situated in a villa with a spacious garden in a beautiful residential area conveniently near the centre of Rome. Originally a large family house, school buildings have retained their former character, encouraging a strong sense of community.
School facilities include fifteen classrooms, three fully equipped laboratories for the sciences and information technology, two libraries, an art room, a music room and two sports pitches. The school also uses the CUS Roma sports facilities for its sports programme. The day begins at 8.45 and ends at 3.30, while the academic year runs from mid- September to late June.
The New School is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education. Admission to the school is on the basis of interview, tests and reports from previous schools. The essential aim of the school is to combine academic success with the development of personal and community responsibility. For this reason The New School demands commitment at all levels from teachers and students alike, producing a very distinctive and highly successful approach to education.
