The COBIS student engagement calendar for 2016-2017 includes opportunities for students to get involved in events, competitions and awards encompassing:

In 2016/17, COBIS student events will be held in Spain, Kingdom of Bahrain, UK and Qatar. We are grateful to all of our host schools and the teachers who work so hard with their students to prepare them for these activities. We hope your students enjoy getting involved in COBIS student events, competitions and awards this academic year.

Primary Creative Challenge

"Life Lessons"

COBIS has once again partnered with Oddizzi to put on the Primary Creative Challenge. This year's challenge is based around "Life Lessons". We want you and your students to tell us what children need to know!

 

The whole school community can get involved, with students asking teachers, support staff, other year groups and parents what they think it is important for children to learn in today's world. 

Art Competition

"Transformations

The theme for this year's Art Competition is Transformations.

 

Schools can submit three entries in each category so we encourage you to run an internal competition and enter the top three in the COBIS Art Competition. 

 

The COBIS Art Competition is open to students in EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3. The closing date is 5 April 2017.

Poetry Competition

"My Country; How I See It"

The COBIS 2017 Student Poetry Competition is now open with the theme My Country; How I See It.

 

Students are invited to write a poem, in 40 lines or less, on the country they identify with and their perspective on it.

 

The categories are (as of 1 January 2017):

  • Category A: 10 yrs and under
  • Category B: 11-14 yrs
  • Category C: 15-19 yrs

The closing date is 17 March 2017. 

Young Scientist Film Awards

This year's Young Scientist Film Awards Competition has a much broader brief than previous years, letting you submit as many scientific experiments as you want on whatever inspires you!  

 

Awards will be given for the "Best Film of an Experiment" in:

  • KS1 and KS2
  • KS3
  • KS4 and KS5

The first review submission date is 3 March 2017 and the closing date is 17 March 2017. 

COBIS Student World Debate Competition

The English International College Marbella will be hosting the annual COBIS Student World Debate Competition from 3-5 February 2017.

 

Over the weekend 16 teams will engage in planned and unplanned debates to compete for the title and the plate. 

COBIS Medical Review Schools Conference

Image

Doha College will host students from COBIS and non-COBIS schools at their annual Medical Review Conference, taking place 4-5 February 2017. 

 

Students, working in teams, will present on a recent development in medicine, with the presentations being assessed by teachers, doctors and medical experts. 

COBIS Model United Nations Conference

The COBIS MUN, now in its second year, will be hosted by the British School of Bahrain, 10-11 March 2017. 

 

The COBIS MUN offers COBIS students the opportunity to come together to discuss important common issues facing us today. The event will help students to develop key skills including debating, critical and creative thinking and compromise. 

COBIS Primary and Secondary Games

A record 52 teams will be travelling to the UK in April and May 2017 to compete in the first UK COBIS Student Games.

COBIS Senior School Music Festival

Registration is now open for the COBIS Senior School Music Festival, taking place at King's College, The British School of Murcia from 26-28 May 2017. 

 

A wonderful programme has been put together, both for the festival and for the leisure time, including; competitions, workshops, dinner at a traditional Spanish restaurant, a trip to the beach and a night safari.

COBIS Student Achievement Awards 

COBIS Member Schools can nominate up to three students to receive a Student Achievement Award this academic year. 

 

Students in KS2, KS3, KS4 and above can be nominated for an award. 

 

The Award may be presented for:

  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • High level contributions to school life
  • Significant fundraising activity
  • An act of bravery
  • Another reason, at the discretion of the Head.

A written citation, detailing the reasons for the award, should be submitted along with the nomination. Please ensure all student names are spelt correctly on the nomination form.
