E-mail Print

Description

The Sir James Henderson School was founded in 1969 by a group of British businessmen who wanted to give their children a quality British Education in Milan. 40 years later we continue to provide our parents and students with this service in a thriving educational community. The School moved to its current site in Via Pisani Dossi in 1996.
Our 773 students, aged from 3-18, are drawn from a diverse range of nationalities and this successful mix gives our school an international dimension which enhances all that we do. We follow the English National Curriculum with the General Certificate of Secondary Education taken by all the students at the age of 16 (Year 11). The IB Diploma, post 16, serves further to underline our on-going commitment to high academic standards and openness to the global society within which our students will live and work.
An emphasis on caring for the individual is very much part of the fabric of the Sir James. This emphasis provides the secure foundation for our students to discover and develop their talents through the broadest possible range of opportunities. An education here extends far beyond a set curriculum into a true exploration of the creative, intellectual, personal and spiritual potential of each and every child.
Our school has an established reputation for academic excellence and we take pride in the achievements of our students in public examinations each year.
We are the centre for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for the North of Italy. Over one third of our student body study a musical instrument and take ABRSM examinations. We excel in Sport and our Art Department is a centre of excellence for Edexcel. The Drama Department is very much in the forefront of the Performing Arts Programme giving regular performances throughout the year.
An important aspect of the British system is to prepare children for their future in the working world. As a member of ISCO, the Independent Schools’ Careers Organisation, professional careers guidance is available from Year 10 until the end of university. Students are given the opportunity to experience life in the work place enabling them to start the process of selecting their future career path. An extensive range of Extra-Curricular Activities completes our educational programme.
Our success may be measured in the numbers of students who move on to Universities throughout the world. In 2009, 60% of them went to Universities in the United Kingdom such as Cambridge, Imperial, Durham, Kings, 20% remained in Italy and currently attend the Bocconi, the Statale and San Raffaele, 12.5% went to American Universities such as Duke, NYU, Providence, Boston, Bard and 7.5 % decided to take a Gap Year to travel and broaden their experience before going on to University next year.
We also see success in their abilities to use the skills developed here which make them adaptable, resourceful, tolerant, persevering and always curious about the world in which we live. The Sir James has educated some of today’s top Managers throughout the world in careers linked to Banking, Finance, Fashion, Business Management and the Arts.
Our students are fortunate in having the support and guidance of a highly motivated and experienced teaching staff whose commitment to the school community and shared joy in its achievements represent a real strength of the school. We aim to work closely with parents and see the success of the home-school partnership as key to the continuing vitality and progress of our school.
It would be our pleasure to welcome you to the school. Words and images can convey only so much and a visit to our living and working school would allow you to capture some of the reasons why it is so enjoyable and satisfying to form part of this vibrant educational community.
