Description
The British International Primary School, founded in 1980, is a private, non-profit school, managed by an elected Board of Governors. The school is situated in an extensively refurbished historic house in Djursholm, a leafy suburb north of central Stockholm, around 20 minutes from the centre by car or public transport.The school is dedicated to providing a broad, high-quality education for children from 3-11 years of age of all nationalities. The British National Curriculum forms the basis of the curriculum, internationalised to take advantage of our location and the wide experiences of our children.
Great emphasis is placed on providing children with a caring, supportive environment in which confidence and self-esteem is nurtured and mutual respect encouraged. Classes are small, enabling teachers to identify and develop the academic potential and learning needs of each child.
Facilities at the school include two playgrounds, with a variety of games and climbing apparatus, a well-stocked library, and fully equipped computer suite, music room and gymnasium. All classrooms are furnished with internet-linked interactive whiteboards.
The school has access to nearby sports fields for games lessons and a local pool for weekly swimming. The surroundings of the school provide opportunities for a wealth of outdoor activities and trips throughout the year.
The teaching staff is qualified and highly experienced in teaching the UK curriculum. Children are taught by specialists for ICT, music, PE and Swedish. An Individual Needs Department provides intensive EAL and (mild) specific learning needs support.
The school takes pride in its reputation for providing a high quality education within a warm and caring community. A 'buddy system' helps new children to settle quickly and an active PTA organises a range of social activities for both children and parents and provides support for new families on arrival in the school community.
School hours are from 8.45 am to 3.15 pm Monday to Friday (8.45 am to 12.15 pm in the Nursery). The school year runs from mid-August to early June and is divided into two terms.
