Description

The British Embassy School Ankara was founded in 1959 to provide a primary school education for the children of the embassy staff members. Since that time the school has grown and changed, so that there are now pupils from 32 nationalities in enlarged and modernised buildings. However the school has remained in its own grounds within the embassy compound, which offer both security and additional facilities. Emphasis is placed on individual encouragement, achievement and mutual respect. Many staff have taught in overseas schools and all are aware of the needs of an international community.

The British Embassy School Ankara is a private, non-profit making school, which serves the diplomatic and business community. It is governed by a Board of Governors with a Chair and representative from the British Embassy.

A British-style education is offered through the medium of the English National Curriculum, with English as the language of instruction. Consideration is given to our setting in Turkey, both within the mainstream subjects and through the teaching of Turkish language and culture from Year 1.

The school consistently achieves performance levels within the top 3% of the published scores in the United Kingdom in the end of year KS2 SATS Tests. The Literacy and Numeracy strategies are fully incorporated into the overall curriculum. The school’s approach to the humanities and physical education includes a range of residential and day trips, which are organised from Year 2 onwards. We are fortunate that Turkey provides many unique resources, both in terms of history and geology.

The British Embassy School Ankara follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for children aged 3-5yrs. The school has recently grown to include Years 7 and 8.
Applications should be made as soon as possible and the closing date for first interviews is the end of April.

The school is set in 3 acres of woodland which includes play equipment and all-weather pitches. School facilities include a new library, Science Lab, Cooking Room, Imaginary Playroom, Outside Classroom for the (EYFS) and a Hall.

The school has a rich programme of after school activities. The school day is from 08.40 to 15.00, from Nursery to Year 5. Years 6, 7 & 8 work until 4pm giving the opportunity to study French, Turkish and Sports. The school year is from the beginning of September until the end of June, with holidays at Christmas and Easter, and half terms.
